What is a CCTV drain survey?
CCTV drain surveys are a great way to find faults in your drainage system. Drainage is an essential part of any building project and can often be overlooked as you have other, more important things to consider. A drain survey will help identify any problems that could lead to flooding or cause damage to your property in the future and help you ensure the site is fully protected before construction begins, thus saving you money and inconvenience further down the line.
A CCTV drain survey is a non-invasive visual inspection of the drains and sewers, which avoids the need to dig out the drains to inspect them, as was done in the past. It is a safe and cost-effective way to inspect drains and can be carried out on a range of drainage systems, such as:
- Sewerage systems
- Drainage systems
- Septic tanks
CCTV drain surveys are recommended for all residential and commercial properties, such as shops and offices. They are beneficial for building projects on brownfield construction sites and inspection of public drains and service pipes located under the road network.
The CCTV drain survey uses a high-resolution camera inserted into the drainage system via an inspection hatch. The camera is maneuvered through the system using flexible rods, and images are sent back to the operator at ground level. At Pro Drainage, we also use WInCan software, which enables the information collected to be viewed instantly on a mobile phone, enabling the operator to extend the survey or take emergency action straight away. The images are also saved in the cloud to allow the engineers to remotely analyze the data later and make plans for any remedial action that may be needed or predict future issues that need to be addressed through modeling likely scenarios based upon the current state of the drains.
